Using The Recommended Products Function

Within the eComm Performance theme, you have the ability to enable Recommended Products on all product pages.

Shopify has introduced dynamic, automatically generated product recommendations that can be created as a section on product pages within your theme. The automatically recommended products are based on an algorithm that predicts the most relevant products based on what product a customer is interacting with at the moment.

This is used to generate these products using sales data and product descriptions to show similar products or often bought together. As new orders and more product data becomes available, the product recommendations improve. 

For recommended products to show up, the product will have to be in a Collection. There will be no recommended products displayed if the product that a customer is viewing is not part of a collection.

Recommended Products can be added to any of the product templates available in the eComm Performance theme (product, product.details, product.description-bottom, product.full-width-images).

If you want to add a 'Recommended Products' content block to your product page, you have to go into Customize (your Theme Editor) > select 'Product Pages' in the drop-down selector. Your theme editor on the left will update with the product page settings. Under Sections > Recommended Products > Enable Show dynamic recommendations.
 
You have the ability to choose how many products you'd like to feature, choose the layout design, and adjust how many products are being displayed.
 

Layout

You can decide if you would like to display your recommended products as a grid or slider. This option is available in the 'layout' setting. 

Heading

The default heading shows as "You may also like." You can change this heading to whatever you would like.

Products Per Row

Recommended products can be between 2-4 per row.

Limit Products

You can customize how many products you would like to appear in the recommended products section. Choose from as little as 2 products to as many as 10.

Recommended products can be displayed in product.details product pages, you'll need to add the products in as a content block. 


Once you've enabled the Show dynamic recommendations under Product Pages > Sections > Recommended Products, in your theme editor, go into Sections > Product details > Add content > Choose Recommended Products. After this is completed, you can position the recommended products wherever you would like on your products.details page by dragging and dropping the content block in your theme editor!



There may be specific products you would like to be featured as recommended products and to allow that to happen, you will need to create a specific collection. By doing this, it will overwrite Shopify's algorithm and the products won't display dynamically or improve over time.

Create a new collection and make a note of the new collection's handle. By cliking 'Edit Website SEO' you will be able to see the collection's handle within the collection:

 
Then you will have to go back to your product and create a new tag that specifies the collection's new handle: meta-related-collection-handle-name. 

This example shows that the collection handle is tops. The tag for our example product 'Shop Style Tee' would be meta-related-collection-tops.
