Recommended Products in the eComm Performance Theme

You have the option to enable Recommended Products on all product pages in the eComm Performance theme. 

Shopify has introduced automatically generated product recommendations that you can enable as a section on product pages in your theme. Products are recommended according to an algorithm that predicts the most relevant products in line with whichever product a customer is interacting with at the time.

The algorithm used to generate the recommended products uses sales data and descriptions to show products that are alike or often bought together. The recommendations improve over time as new orders and data become available.

In order for recommended products to be displayed, the product that is being viewed will have to be in a collection. If the product is not part of a collection, there will be no recommended products.

Recommended Products can be added in any of the templates available in the eComm Performance theme (product, product.details, product.description-bottom, product.full-width-images).

If you want to add a 'Recommended Products' content block, go to Customize (your Theme Editor) > select 'Product Pages' in the drop-down page selector. Your theme editor will update, with the product page settings. Sections > Recommended Products > Enable show dynamic recommendations
 
In the recommended products settings, you can choose how many products you'd like to display, the layout design, and decide how many products are displayed.

 

Layout

The 'layout' setting allows you to display your recommended products as a grid or slider.

 

Heading

"You may also like" is the default heading. You can change this default heading to something else if you decide to.

Products Per Row

You can choose between 2-4 products per row for your recommended products.

Limit Products

You can customize how many products you would like to appear in the recommended products section. Choose from as little as two products to as many as ten.


 
Recommended products can be displayed in product.details product pages. To do this, the products will be added as a content block.
Once you have selected to Show dynamic recommendations under Product Pages > Sections > Recommended Products, in your theme editor, go into Sections > Product details > Add content > Choose Recommended Products. After this is completed, you can position the recommended products wherever you would like on your products.details page by dragging and dropping the content block in your theme editor!

 
If you want specific products to show up as recommended products, you will have to create a collection. Doing this will overwrite Shopify's algorithm, which means that the products won't display automatically or improve over time based on new data.
After you create the new collection and make a note of the handle, it can be seen by clicking 'Edit Website SEO' in the collection itself:


After this is done, go back to your product and add a new tag that shows the collection's handle:
meta-related-collection-handle-name

So in this example, since the collection handle is best-sellers, in our example product: 'Shop Style Tee,' the tag to add would be meta-related-collection-best-sellers. 

The products featured in this collection should be displayed as the Recommended Products:
