Facebook Pixel Event Tracking and the SSD Theme

Facebook Pixel Event Tracking and the SSD Theme

Tracking Sales (conversions) using the Facebook Pixel works in all versions of the SSD theme if you follow these steps from Shopify.

Compatibility Notes

  • In situations where your marketing strategy requires detailed page visit tracking we would encourage you to change your store to "Agile" mode under Sales Channels > Online Store > Themes > Customize (purple button) > Theme Settings > Performance. However, it is important to note that Facebook Pixel event tracking is notoriously difficult to troubleshoot and you may have issues in Agile mode as well.
  • The Pixel Helper provided by Facebook is a great tool to test your FB Pixel Integration.
  • Facebook Pixel implementation and troubleshooting is supported directly by Shopify's Guru team but advanced setups can be worked on by our team of marketing Experts.
  • Third party apps may add additional Facebook Pixels or make adjustments to the embedded Facebook Pixel. To resolve issues caused by this, you will need to contact the app developers.

Tracking 'AddToCart' Events

The SSD Theme V1.5 and above provide basic support for "AddToCart" tracking for all cart options including the mini cart..

Tracking Cart Page Events

In situations where tracking when buyers add an item to your cart is not functioning with the mini cart, you may want to change to the "page" cart type or change your shop over to "Agile" mode.
  1. To set this option, go under Sales Channels > Online Store > Themes > Customize (purple button) > Theme Settings > Cart).
  2. In your Facebook account. create a custom audience using a URL pattern to place users who have visited URLs containing "cart" as the criteria. You can then use this audience to target your advertising.
  3. To avoid targeting buyers who added an item to the cart and completed the purchase, you can either exclude users with the "Purchase" event or create an additional custom audience containing the URL pattern "thank_you" (the Shopify order confirmation page). When building your ad, set the your targeting to "include" the the first audience while excluding the second.

Linking your product catalog

The Facebook Pixel Helper may in some cases display warnings about there not being a properly linked product catalog or that it is not configured. Facebook has a great guide on linking your product catalog.
